To refine silver or gold is a beautiful thing. Under immense heat and pressure, the metal is brought to its purest state whilst its journey there sees a burst of beautifully vivid colours.
Silver Refined, Gold Tried is a collection that reflects a story of beauty. It mirrors a tale of beauty moulded from the most intense situations. Even under immense pressure, the possibility of being moulded into something beautiful remains true.
It tells a story of becoming.
Silver Refined, Gold Tried is made for you, the F+W woman. You who are a dreamer and a doer. You are beautiful in your becoming because beautiful is your becoming. You ever allow yourself to be moulded into something beautiful and in return shares that beauty with those who surround you.
Each piece I have crafted tells a story of prayers prayed in the still of the night, of dreams hoped for and holding on to the truth of what cannot be seen. Each piece worn is a reflection of this.”
The Process:
Aside from normal bench work and stone setting, the majority of my pieces were crafted using the old age technique called lost wax casting. I hand carved and moulded the pieces from wax, and once satisfied with my designed, I sent them off to the casters where the process of lost wax carving would occur. A mould is formed around the wax, the wax is then melted away (lost wax) and the hollow space is filled with my desired choice of recycled metal.
I then bring the pieces home and clean them up to a beautiful standard.
